Whether it’s the ‘Skins, Nats, Os or Caps, we’re sports fans. So when GRAPHEK was asked to redesign the logo for a travel softball team, we jumped at the chance. The Great Falls Sharks, a competitive team serving girls ages 9-17, felt their original logo appealed to a younger audience, and it was time to update, upgrade and celebrate girl power. Color played an important role—with three different team shirt colors depending on where they were playing, the logo had to work on multiple backgrounds. Unveiled during the team’s 10th anniversary, the Sharks’ branding energized the team and gave them fresh confidence as they started their season.
The Great Falls Sharks annually supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but much of their apparel commemorating it felt disparate and disconnected. To better bridge their spiritwear and uniforms, we created a special “pink ribbon” version of the logo, as well as corresponding typographic treatments that would maintain brand equity and honor an important cause.
Each concept aimed to emphasize various aspects of the team—all hinted at an underlying competitive spirit while still prioritizing the team’s nurturing philosophy, but we focused on strength rather than ferocity. The chosen logo also alludes to the Great Falls region, with a splashing waterfall framing the shark and team name. The typography is meant to mimic the sharp, pointy elements of shark teeth and is carried subtly throughout the branding.
